Tumandok Crafts Industries turns natural materials — most recently carefully treated capiz shell — into houseware and décor made by hand. What began as a way to keep local livelihoods going after the sugar industry crisis has grown into a craft practice now in its fourth decade.

Each collection starts with a material — shell, bark, husk, or wood — and takes its final shape through hand work. Here is a first look at what’s in the workshop.

Trays, coasters, and wall-mounted hampers finished in treated capiz shell — the material Tumandok has worked with since 1988.

Trays, bins, coasters, and a soap dish, all worked in dried banana bark skin for everyday use.

A Craft Since 1988
Almost four decades in Negros Occidental
Tumandok Crafts Industries started as a trading firm offering alternative livelihood to sugar workers after the collapse of the Negros sugar industry. A factory fire in 2003 slowed the workshop down — it did not stop it. Today the company continues to work from Bago City, Negros Occidental, with a showroom in Bacolod City.
